Thanks to our contributors in the 2-27th Infantry Battalion "Wolfhounds", 25th Infantry Division US Army, we were able to donate $500 to the Holy Family Home Orphanage in Osaka, Japan. We were also able to donate $1000 to Plaquemine High School in Plaque, LA 70734 from the money made through our fundraising, particularly the garage sale.
So far in the short duration of our existence, our President and Founder, Mr. Donovan A. Lazarus, has traveled to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. In Vietnam he has, in the name of the Lazarus Foundation and the JPAC, made a $2,000 donation to Truong Elementary School in the Thua Thien Hue province. This money will go to the renovation and landscaping of the high school and the purchasing of textbooks for the students. A $500 donation was also made on the behalf of the foundation to A-Luoi Summer School for desks, chairs and textbooks. In Laos, we have also donated a total of $1000 to Ban Longya High School, which is still being built, in order to help them pay for a cafeteria/kitchen and a soccer field. We recognize that extra-curricular activities are essential to a students' educational and social growth, and we would like to promote these as well. Currently, we're planning to reward two scholarships, for one boy and girl, in three Vietnamese high schools - A-Luoi High School, Hong Van High School, and Huong Lam High School. The Lazarus Foundation Asia-Pacific has also rewarded a full-year tuition scholarship to Miss Bui Thi Dieu Thuy, who is currently a college student studying at the College of Foreign Languages in Hue. Her sister, Miss Bui Thi Dieu Truc, who is a student majoring in information technology at Duytan University in Danang, has also received a full tuition scholarship.
Our President has just gotten back from Vietnam. Thanks to our supporters and to the facilitation of the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials, we were able to donate over $2000 worth of textbooks and school supplies to four elementary schools in the District of Lao Bao, Quang Tri Province, Vietnam.
In addition to contributions in Southeast Asia, our foundation is working to raise funds for scholarships for disadvantaged students in the Pacific Islands as well. Our tentative plan is to award a $500 scholarship to a boy and a girl who fit our scholarship criteria in each of the three school districts of Oahu, Hawaii. We have organized two car washes in our fundraising efforts, and one hundred percent of the money made has gone to the foundation's scholarship fund.
